Let us get moving!

Who should exercise? Everyone!
Only a paraplegic, paralysed from the neck down, cannot move a muscle, and every muscle in your body needs to be used - frequently, intermittently and intensively - if you are to enjoy the best of health.

Do not use your muscles and they shrink, slowly and silently being replaced by fat, so that even though you may not be gaining weight on the scale, you are becoming fatter and less fit as the years go by. Your energy level will fall, your metabolism slows down, your physiology becomes sluggish and your joints unstable, soon to be followed by overt symptoms and signs of “lifestyle” diseases.

What is “exercise”? Action!
Exercise means using your muscles. It does not mean taking up weightlifting or joining a walking group. A farmer gets all the exercise he needs from being a farmer; a stevedore does not need to do any bodybuilding. The best exercise programme is an active lifestyle in which, all day, everyday, you are doing things – pulling, lifting, climbing, moving – with appropriate periods of rest and relaxation, and a good night’s sleep.

What are the benefits of exercise? Better health and greater vitality.
Muscles do everything – blinking your eyelids, writing with a pen, climbing the stairs, laughing, dancing and having sex. Muscles burn up calories – even when they are resting – and burn up blood sugar. Muscles keep your blood flowing and your circulation strong.
Muscles pull on your bones and make them stronger. Muscles support your spine and keep your joints stable. Energy comes from muscles, allowing you to work, socialise, enjoy your life, and succeed in your ambitions. Stronger and fitter muscles mean you are able to do more and be more.

Our goal is to bring people together. People who exercise in groups are more consistent, achieve higher standards, lose more weight, and enjoy their programmes more than those who go it alone. We will increase your options for a more active lifestyle by showing you where to go, who you will meet, what you can do, and how to do it properly. We will help you to set your personal goals and encourage you to meet them. You can share your ideas and experiences and benefit from the experience and support of others. You can talk to the experts as well as your peers, find the equipment and other resources you need, and create opportunities for yourself and others to do things you have been unable to do before.
